| Web design is exciting but you need to make sure you don't get carried away too much and follow some basic rules. 1 Graphics. Make sure you optimise the images and graphics on your pages, if you have a fast internet connection your pages will download quickly even if image files are large, but don't forget that lots of your visitors will still have slow internet connections less than 2mb and it's easy to optimise your images. 2.Images Always take time to choose images that fit in with your content. Using graphics that are not relevant to the subject matter can confuse readers about the message you are trying to get across. There are many sources of free images and stock libraries which sell high quality photos are reasonable prices.(Don't use images on your site unless you are sure that the copyright ownership allow you to do so) 3.Dont use blinking images. Images that blink can be very distracting to site visitors, there is nothing wrong with a well designed flash animation on your home page or on pages where you need to illustrate a particular point but flashing images are generally a big no no. Some focus groups have even reported users covering parts of the screen with their hands so that they can read the content without being distracted. 4.Use standard layouts. When creating a web design you might be tempted to come up with a radical new layout for your pages but the our advice is don't do it!. Radical layouts will drive your visitors nuts. People like tried and tested page layouts, most people read pages using an F pattern which means that they look for navigational element on the left of the page and across the top with content to the right. You might think that standard two and thre column layouts are boring but they work. |
