Rebel State Clothing are a Camden based retailer of alternative street wear. The owners have traded from famous London locations such as Carnaby Street, Covent Garden and Portobello. This has provided them with a wealth of experience of the London fashion scene. They have now developed their own ‘Rebel State’ clothing brand which is gaining in reputation and is sold through their London based store alongside other well know street brands which they stock.

The guys at Rebel State are trend setters and they asked us for an ecommerce website which would appeal to the young clientele who buy their clothing. It needed to be simple and understated with an edgy street cred which reflected the product range.

With streetwear now being worn by favourite artists such as Beyonce, Jay-Z and Rihanna, it is finding its way into the wardrobes of more and more people from all walks of life. With this in mind, we also had to make sure that the design of the website would also appeal to more mainstream visitors.

The page layouts are designed with two main columns. In the left hand column there is a website navigation panel whilst the main content is placed in the opposite column on the right. This kind of layout makes it easy for the visitor to read and evaluate the website pages because it follows the natural ‘F’ shaped reading pattern which people tend to use subconsciously when reading from a computer rather than a printed page.

With our client selling street fashion to a young clientele from a central London location, we realised that a large number of Rebel State’s website visitors would probably be accessing the website using mobile devices. With this in mind, we also set about the process of creating a fully optimised mobile ecommerce website that customer’s would find it easy to navigate. We also wanted to provide super fast loading pages even when they were being accessed using a mobile network. The mobile ecommerce solution we developed scored 100% in the Google insights mobile compatibility test. It has since proved to be an invaluable asset for the business. As we predicted during the initial consultations with our client, almost 50% of visitors are accessing the website using mobile devices.
